Le fromage....

Axe and I booked into a wine and cheese class this weekend at the Artisanal Cheese Center to learn about what kinds of cheese pair with which kind of wine....truth be told, we just went to try some yummy cheese and drink a lot of wine on the house:-) kidding!!! Axe and I have been exploring different kinds of wine and cheese for the last few months as we are both foodies!!! we also learnt that wine and cheese parties are the easiest kind for lazy folks like us:-)

the class was taught by what we thought was an extremely knowledgeable "cheese guy" - that's what he called himself....we went though the cheese making process, 8 rounds of different types of cheese (such as blue, goat and sheep cheese from France, Portugal, etc) and 4 different types of wine...2 whites and 2 reds....and we were asked to taste these together to determine which pairing was the best...we really liked the Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand (Marlborough Reserve) and the Clacbitou cheese from Bourgogne in France....Axe and my ultimate takeaway was that the best wine on the list made even the worst cheese taste good and vice versa....

Axe, of course, had almost a bottle of wine in total and was very "happy" at the end of it...so was the "cheese guy", who kept promoting his new book and talked about how he ate a lot of cheese for breakfast so he had enough energy for a long day of....ahem ahem....with some pretty ladies....

But despite the many glasses of wine, it was quite an interesting class....we acted like true students and even got our notes home...its fascinating to learn about the origins of different types of cheese and why they pair with certain wines the best....some factors are the terrain, the "personality" of the cheese, and even the sweet-salt balance...we might take another class..but till then here's hoping we put out new knowledge to practice and have a wine and cheese party...
